• Became “The Lady of Firsts” from her early days in the college basketball world. The first person in NCAA history, male or female, to record 2,000 points and 1,000 assists in a career, she is the only player in NCAA history to lead the nation for four years in assists.

• A builder, Karen constructed a college-level women’s basketball program from scratch at a shipbuilding trade school, Newport News Apprentice, that never had fielded a female sport in its 75-year existence. And, starting at the age of 22, she led them to a national title!

• A successful college coach on the Division I, II and III levels with 440 victories in 27 years, Karen’s specialty has been resurrecting struggling programs, leading them to victories and selling out arenas.

Along the way Karen has been guided by the belief that "Success Leaves Footprints," catalysts for the environments of academic success she has fostered in preparing her players for the professional ranks in
basketball and business. She even mentored a future college athletic director.
